Lebanon has been deeply affected by multiple crises across the country: the influx of Syrian refugees since 2011, the gradual economic collapse since 2019, the explosion in the port of Beirut in 2020 and finally the Covid-19 pandemic.
Acute shortages resulting from these successive crises have left Lebanon in chaos.
The health sector is on the verge of collapse as the need for health services increases dramatically. Amid a cash-strapped population, the Lebanese healthcare system continues to fall apart. Hospitals, health centres and all health facilities suffer daily power cuts that last for hours. These problems are due to outages in the national electricity grid and a lack of diesel to power emergency generators. As a result, services in health centers are limited.
FOR foundation supports Medair on a health project which targets 4 health centres in Lebanon. In these health centres, general, gynecological, obstetric and pediatric consultations are provided, with 50% of the funding for all patients being financed by Medair. Medair supports the provision of free vaccinations for children in collaboration with the Ministry of Health. The project will support each centre and guarantee their capacity and that of health personnel to carry out routine vaccinations (access to vaccines, staff training, cold chain management). Medair also aims to ensure that the 4 centres are supplied with medicines and medical equipment to be able to treat patients and avoid stock-outs.
